A family garden. A favourite restaurant. A woodland clearing. A marquee under open skies.
Complete the legal part of your marriage at one of our Suffolk Register Offices, then celebrate with a personal celebrant-style ceremony at almost any suitable location you choose.
Less about venue rules. More about what matters.
Your place. Your people. Your story.

The legal marriage. The personal wedding. One trusted team.
In England and Wales, a civil marriage or civil partnership must take place at a Register Office or a licensed approved venue. A celebration at an unlicensed venue is not legally binding by itself.
With Suffolk Registrars, you complete the legal ceremony at one of our register offices, then ask our team to conduct a personal, celebrant-style ceremony at your chosen location.
The two parts have different legal purposes, but they can be planned as one thoughtful experience.
Continuity. Reassurance. Far more freedom over the setting.
Two ceremonies, one wedding story
Some couples worry that completing the legal marriage first might make the later celebration feel less important.
It does not have to.
Your register office ceremony takes care of the legal commitment. Your personal ceremony creates space for the vows, stories, people and moments you want to share more widely.
You can keep the legal ceremony small and understated, with just the most special people, saving your personal vows, ring exchange or other special elements for the celebration.
Both moments matter. They simply do different jobs.
Where would you choose?
Perhaps it is the garden where you spent long summer evenings together. A café that already feels like part of your story. A family farm, woodland glade, holiday home or marquee overlooking the Suffolk countryside.
Your chosen place does not need to resemble a conventional wedding venue.
It just needs to mean something to you and be suitable for the ceremony you are planning.
